Day 14: Cape Clear, Baltimore, Glandor & Clonakilty, Co. Cork, Ireland
The last day I’ll have on Cape Clear (for now)! I woke up
this morning, had a quick breakfast and headed outside with Gayelan and Ana (the new WWOOFer) to get the
goats started in their milking schedule. It took a bit longer than usual since
we explained everything that needed to be done, but we got them started soon
enough and I got to spend a bit more time with them! I will continue to refer
to this short vacation as my love affair with the goats… NBD.
Bye bye Lavender!
:)
Babyyy <3
I said my goodbyes (both to the goats and the humans), and
Zoe and I headed down to the harbor to catch our ferry at noon. The ferry took
about 45 minutes and then we were in Baltimore where we were to meet up with
Tina, John and Rob once they came in from their ferry. They had gone out to
another island, Sherkin, for Nolwen’s birthday the night before. They missed
the 2pm ferry, so were planning on taking the 4:00 that got them in around
4:25.
In the meantime, Zoe and I wandered Baltimore a bit stocking
up on sweets, snacks, and finally settling into a pub to get some real lunch
(and pints). We each had a cup of soup-
I had spicy tomato and a pint of Guinness. Best thing you could ask for on your
return to the mainland. We stayed here for a while, eventually ordering some
crisps, another pint, and a grilled cheese to split. Just as we were to set out
to explore a bit more it started to rain, so back in we went- this time for
some tea!
After we met Tina, John and Rob with a performance of sorts
(our own rendition of “For the Longest Time,” to be specific), we hopped in the
van and we were on our way home! We stopped at Lidl quickly for some food, and
then made our way to Glandor, a quick
stop along the way. Glandor is a peninsula of sorts (I think) that is
surrounded by beautiful bays and gorgeous views. The bay was full of sailing
boats as well as yahts, and we all got a pint and sat at a table outside to
enjoy the decent weather (overcast, but kind of warm) on a ‘summer’ night.
I left my camera in the car so unfortunately I don’t have
any photos to share with you, but it was gorgeous. The water was incredibly
blue and clear, and the scenery seemed right out of a fairytale. A perfect pit stop on the way home J
We continued on to Clonakilty and finally arrived back at
Desert Serges house! We soon sat down to a wonderful dinner that Tina made-
pork chops with a secret sauce on them with cous cous and sautéed veggies on
the side. YUM!
It’s good to be ‘home.’ J
Favorite part of the day: Glandor. Not only does it sound like
something out of LOTR, it was a beautifully serene place that I never would
have stumbled upon had I not been exactly who I was with and where I was at
that moment J
Something like fate.
