Day 36: Krakow, Poland & Copenhagen, Denmark
I woke up early this morning to hope on a train to the
airport in Krakow and was on my way to Denmark! I hadn’t really done any
research on how to make it from Billund (which is Ryanair’s “Copenhagen” even
though it’s 3 hours away), so I was planning on winging it when I got there. Turns
out I had to take a bus for an hour to a train station, and then a 2 and a half
hour train ride to Central Copenhagen. Woof. It wasn’t actually that bad
though, and I made it to Copenhagen around 3:30ish!
And I finally met up with Stephen! It’s crazy that this is
essentially the halfway point of the trip, but we have a very full and exciting
month to look forward to! We stumbled around the train station for a whle
trying to figure out how to buy tickets on the bus and where we’d be going, and
after finally figuring it out, we headed out to our flat by the Zoo! It’s a
good distance away from the city center though, so we’re probably going to look
for a centrally located hostel instead.
It was raining buckets when I got here yesterday, but
Stephen and I ventured into the center of the city for dinner and to watch the
England-Italy match. As fate would have it, we ended up at an Irish pub just
off of the main square, enjoyed some dinner and then had some beers during the
match.
It was a really fun atmosphere and pretty much split half
and half with England and Italian supporters. We also ran into a kid who was
from Boston/BU rooting for England, so as the true Northeasterners would have
it, we were for Italy all the way. By the end of the game (which ended in a
shoot out), Italy most certainly deserved the win. We made our way back to the
flat and called it a night!
Favorite part of the day: Meeting up with Stephen! Finally!!!
