Day 17: Ahiohill, Co. Cork, Ireland
This morning started as a lovely day in West Cork. I had a
quick breakfast of toast with a banana and started doing some work around the
house/in the drive right away. Tina had an appraiser coming to the house so we
needed to make it look nice!
It started raining halfway through our work so that was cut
short. We finished up what we could and then came inside to hang out for a bit.
I finished a book and had a delicious lunch of spinach and rocket salad with
goat cheese, salsa and tabbouleh. The appraisers came and left (and the weather
got better) and then Zoe and I headed outside to do the rest of the yardwork!
We weeded several vegetable patches (while getting several
ant bites and nettle stings) and netted and created a new wigwam for beans to
be planted in. Essentially, it’s a teepee made of bamboo stalks with a fine net
around it so that the beans can grow and wrap around the bamboo stalks. A lot
harder than it sounds, actually! I’ll put up a picture when I get a chance to
go outside and snap one!
This took up most of the afternoon and then we came inside
to take showers and sit down to dinner. Tina made some lamb sausages and some
more tabbouleh for all of us (including her friend, Corrine who spent the night).
I also had an ice cold Bulmer’s with dinner- a great way to end a full day of
hard work!
After dinner, the coffee and whisky came out- we had no whipping
cream so it was an abbreviated form of an Irish coffee. After that, the guitars
came out and we had a full on jam session for several hours! I recorded a few
songs, but can’t seem to figure out how/if I can put them online. Will continue
to try, though!
Slainte!
Favorite part of the day: Making the wigwam! It was certainly a
challenge, but it felt great once we finished it. Definitely a great skill to
have when I want to have my own gardens J
