Day 48: Prague, Czech Republic & Munich, Germany

In the morning we packed up all of our stuff and checked out of the hostel, taking a day bag with us and leaving the rest of our stuff with them for the day. We set out with no real plan other than to just wander the city to parts we haven’t been to before. It was an absolutely gorgeous day outside (too hot at times), and we enjoyed the atmosphere of the city fully for one more day before we left!

We grabbed a small pizza to split at an open-air café for lunch- we intended to wait until Italy to eat pizza but we caved in! It was delicious nonetheless and it made me even more excited for the pizza in Italy!

When we had gone on the walking tour our guide recommended that we go down one of the streets we stopped up where the National Museum was and turn around to look back down the avenue. We meant to do it yesterday, but it slipped our minds but luckily enough, today was our day! We accidentally stumbled back onto the street we wanted to revisit and took some photos there.

At this spot on January 16th, 1969, a student by the name of Jan Palach set himself on fire as a proest against the continuing Communist rule and lack of resistance by the Czech people. A month later, another one of his friends did the same thing at a nearby cafe. Unfortunately the wheels didn't get turning until a few years later, when more than 30,000 Czech citizens gathered on this street jangling their keys in the air (called the Velvet Revolution) showing that they wouldn't stand for this kind of rule anymore.

Afterwards, I remembered that I wanted to see the Dancing House so we made our way to that part of the city as well. There was a small island with a park right next to it as well, which we happily took a rest in.

Our small island spot!

When we finally got ourselves up, we headed back to the hostel to grab our stuff and go to the bus station. Grabbed a bit of dinner from the small café that was there and hopped on the bus to Munich!

When we arrived it was raining (common theme for city arrivals, I guess) but we found our way to our hostel in Munich pretty quickly. By that time it was about 11pm, so we just settled in and relaxed a bit down in the lounge area of the hostel. Went to bed at a decent hour so we would be ready for tomorrow!

Favorite part of the day: Laying in the park. Not only was it relaxing, it was entertaining to see so many couples out in public borderline getting it on and not caring that the world was their audience. Oh, Czechs.
